Cambridge and India

Conservation

Cambridge specialists lead the way in conservation science and informing worldwide policy on the environment. The University has centres of expertise in threatened species, ecosystems, assessing the economic and social aspects of conservation, and the management of the use of biological resources.

A unique feature of Cambridge is the extent of the collaboration between academics with policy-makers, government agencies, conservation organisations and other institutes based in and around Cambridge. The Cambridge Conservation Forum (CCF) exists to strengthen the links between them.

During 2006-07 the University created three new chairs in conservation, including the Miriam Rothschild Chair of Conservation Biology, established to honour the eminent zoologist Dame Miriam Rothschild.

Professor Rhys Green
Department of Zoology

Professor Green is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Zoology. His research concerns the effects of human land use and conservation management on populations of birds. He is particularly interested in quantifying and modelling the effects of agricultural management, disturbance, illegal killing and conservation measures on the demography of bird populations and using the insights this provides to devise conservation programmes.
